Twelve Months On
I arrived asking for ten more yards and left with a driver an inch shorter that goes about the same distance. What changed is that I stopped losing one a round into the trees on the right. A season on, I am still not sure I understand the spread number they showed me, but I have believed it since about June.

My old wedges worked in August and were hopeless in May. Rosalind explained the turf window thing in about two minutes with a wedge in each hand and I understood it immediately. Two springs later I have not stuck one in wet ground yet, which for me is remarkable.

They measured my existing irons first and told me three of them were more than a degree out of the lie they were supposed to be. Bent them, charged me forty-odd dollars, and said come back in a year if the problem is still there. It was not. I have sent four people since.

What I appreciated was watching the two of them disagree about whether I should be in a 4-iron or a hybrid, in front of me, with the numbers on the table. I picked the hybrid. Halvor thought the iron was closer than Rosalind did. The card had both cases written on it, which felt oddly reassuring.

The putter session found that I was aiming almost a full cup right at eight feet and had been for years. The fix was three quarters of an inch off the length and half a degree of lie on the putter I already owned. Cost me the session fee and nothing else. Nobody tried to sell me anything.

I play maybe fifteen rounds a year and felt slightly ridiculous booking a fitting at all. Nobody made me feel that way. They fitted me for the golf I actually play rather than the golf I might play if I practised, and the set is genuinely easier to hit than what I had.

Ordered a matching gap wedge eighteen months after the original fitting. It came back at the same frequency and half a swing weight point off the rest of the set. I did not know that was something you could ask for until they explained the card system.

Fitted in February, which they warned me was not ideal for the wedges. Got a note in April asking me to come back for the turf review, which was included. They changed one grind and left the rest alone. That follow-up is why I keep going back.

The Other Kind Of Note
What The Sessions That Do Not Work Look Like
Roughly one session in twelve ends without a change that the golfer is convinced by. We would rather describe those honestly than pretend the other eleven are the whole picture.
The most common version is a golfer whose swing is in the middle of changing. Delivery moves week to week, the census scatters, and no equipment answer holds still long enough to be trusted. We note that on the card, charge for the session, and suggest coming back once things have settled. About half do.
The second most common is a golfer who wants a result the geometry cannot deliver — usually significant extra carry without giving up any dispersion. There is often no honest answer to that, and saying so at minute forty is better than building something that will disappoint in June.
Halvor spent an hour with me and then told me my irons were fine and that I should spend the money on lessons instead. He charged me for the session, which is fair, and he was right, which was annoying. I came back the following year and bought a full set.
